Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about booking and our services.
Booking & getting started
How does a mobile mechanic service work?
You tell us your vehicle and what it needs, request a time and location, and a technician comes to you with the tools and parts to complete the agreed service.
What areas does Mechanic On Call serve?
Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge, plus nearby communities such as Breslau, Elmira, Ayr and St. Jacobs. Contact us to confirm your location.
Can I book an oil change at home?
Yes. Mobile oil changes are one of our most popular services and usually take around 30 minutes on site.
What information should I provide when booking?
Your name and phone number, the vehicle’s make, model, year (and engine size if you know it), the service location, and a short description of the problem.
How do I request a service estimate?
Call or text (519) 503-9007, or send a booking request with your vehicle details and we’ll get back to you with a quote.
What vehicle repairs can be completed at my location?
Oil changes, brake pads and rotors, calipers, brake and coolant flushes, throttle body cleaning, starters, alternators, jump starts, tire swaps and flat repairs. Safety inspections are done at our Kitchener station.
Mobile mechanic service
What is a mobile auto mechanic service?
A mobile mechanic brings professional maintenance and repair to your home, workplace or wherever your vehicle is parked, so you don’t need to visit a garage.
Are mobile mechanic services reliable?
Our technicians use professional tools and quality parts, and many common jobs are just as effective in a driveway as in a shop. Jobs that need a lift or specialised equipment will be flagged in advance.
Can mobile mechanics handle emergency repairs?
We can help with many urgent issues such as flat batteries, flat tires and failed starters. Call us to check availability.
How do I prepare for a mobile mechanic visit?
Make sure the vehicle is parked on a flat, safe surface with room to work around it, and have your keys available.
Are mobile mechanic services more expensive than garages?
Not necessarily — you also save the time and cost of getting your car to and from a shop. Contact us for a quote for your vehicle.
Maintenance
How often should I get an oil change?
Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s recommended interval. Severe driving — short trips, towing or winter conditions — may require more frequent changes.
What type of oil is best for my car?
The grade listed in your owner’s manual. We use quality oil in the grade your engine specifies.
How often should I rotate my tires?
Many manufacturers recommend every 8,000–12,000 km; check your owner’s manual.
Brakes
What are the signs that I need brake service?
Squealing, grinding, vibration, a soft pedal or the car pulling to one side when braking.
How often should I have my brakes inspected?
At least once a year, or any time you notice changes in noise or pedal feel.
Battery, starter & alternator
What are the symptoms of a failing starter?
Clicking when you turn the key, grinding noises, or intermittent no-starts with a healthy battery.
What are the signs of a failing alternator?
A battery warning light, dimming lights, repeated dead batteries or a whining noise from the engine bay.
How often should I replace my car battery?
Typically every 3–5 years, depending on climate and driving habits.
Inspections
Are safety inspections done at my home?
No. Ontario safety inspections are performed at our DriveON certified station in Kitchener.
How long is a Safety Standards Certificate valid?
An Ontario SSC is valid for 36 days from the date of inspection.
